JR Wellington Sports Management held a press conference in London today to announce the purchase of a new professional football club, and for the first time in the management group's history, the purchase was of a local club. The latest Wellington addition is Uxbridge Town Association Football Club, and the group is anticipating their new club joining the Association Football Premier League for the upcoming season.
Wellington Group CEO Geoffrey Wellington was emotional talking about this new endeavour. "When I was growing up, I would listen to grandad talking at length about his football clubs all over the world" said Wellington, referring to his late grandfather Gregory Wellington. "Getting to see those top level teams compete was an amazing early memory for me. But the one thing that he always wanted was to own a Premier League club. He came close a few times, but was never able to accomplish that goal. Today, we are one step closer to achieving that goal."
Executives from the Wellington Group are expected to meet again with AFPL leadership in hopes of finalizing a deal for Uxbridge to join as a member club.
