Season 101 All Stars Announced

For the second year in a row, JR Wellington Sports Management held its annual event to honour the all star players for their football clubs this season. Director of Football Eadburt Clement presented the awards and spoke to everyone attending the dinner held in their honour. "It has been another incredibly successful season for our teams" said Clement. "The players and manager being honoured today exemplify the top level skill and dedication required to be a top footballer at the professional level. It has been a joy to watch all of them play this year."

The award winners for Season 101 were:

  • Manager: MacCallum Barry (Uxbridge)
  • GK: Wynward Garnis (Uxbridge)
  • D: Sinnath Gudde (Overijssel)
  • D: Tyren Zonneveld (Overijssel)
  • D:  Koeman Messoudi (Overijssel)
  • D: Stephen Mill (Uxbridge)
  • M: Huenu Barragan (Uxbridge)*
  • M: Luke Maigny (Uxbridge)
  • M: Johan Nix (Whitehorse)
  • M: Aldo Salman (Overijssel)
  • F: Gilbert Cadogan (Uxbridge)
  • F: Mestreca (Overijssel)

MacCallum Barry repeats as Wellington's top manager after guiding Uxbridge Town to their first league title, and the sports management group's first championship in almost 70 years. The 51 year old Englishman now has 6 Premier League titles to his name as a manager.

English goalkeeper Wynward Garnis was instrumental to an Uxbridge side that led the Premier League in goals conceded. Garnis, who just turned 20, allowed 29 goals in 30 matches, made 76 saves, and 12 clean sheets.

Sinnath Gudde was named to his second consecutive all star team. The 29 year old Dutch defender tallied 4 goals in 33 matches and was a key defensive contributor for Overijssel United after making the switch to the wing position.

Overijssel's young centre back Tyren Zonneveld, also returns for his second all star appearance. The 20 year old Dutchman also managed 4 goals for his team and remained a force in the middle defensively.

The star acquisition for Overijssel in the offseason, 27 year old Dutch defender Koeman Messoudi did not disappoint. Messoudi had his third straight season with double digit goals, tallying 10 goals in 33 league matches.

Stephen Mill captained a championship winning Uxbridge side while he was still a teenager. The now 20 year old English centre back scored 3 goals in 30 league matches while providing sturdy defence and impressive leadership.

31 year old Mexican midfielder Huenu Barragan was a revelation for Uxbridge Town, adding a Wellington Player of the Year award to his league championship and Premier League Golden Ball award for league MVP. Barragan scored 22 goals in 32 league matches, dazzling fans with his free kicking prowess and incredible dribbling skills.

Last year's Wellington Player of the Year, 34 year old Luke Maigny returns to the all star team for a second consecutive season. The French midfielder scored 12 goals in 30 league matches and his pairing with Barragan in the central midfield was the primary driving force for Uxbridge's league title.

Whitehorse Freezers captain Johan Nix returns to the all star team for a second season, and was the only award winner for his team. The 33 year old American led his squad with 10 goals in 28 matches, and was often the sole bright spot for the struggling Canadian team.

American attacking midfielder Aldo Salman was the missing piece this season in unlocking Overijssel's offensive attack. The 29 year old scored 18 goals in 30 matches, only a goal less than his three teammates who started at forward.

Gilbert Cadogan's debut season in his native England proved to be a very fruitful one. The 27 year old striker scored 34 goals in 27 league matches for Uxbridge, which was enough for him to win the Premier League's Golden Boot as top goal scorer.

Brazilian forward Mestreca had a tremendous debut season for Overijssel United. The 26 year old winger was tied for the team lead with 19 goals in 33 matches. Mestreca was also key in distribution, often setting up his youthful teammates up front with great scoring opportunities.

Uxbridge Town Wins Wellington's First League Title in Nearly 70 Years

As the match ended in a 3-0 Uxbridge victory over Blackley Town, Wellington Group CEO Geoffrey Wellington was near tears celebrating in the visitor's box with Director of Football Eadburt Clement and club President Bertrand Jeunechamp. The win cemented a league title for JR Wellington Sports Management, the first in the organization's new history, and the first since Næstved Idrætsforening af 1894 won the Danish League back in S33.

In an interview the following day, Geoffrey Wellington really summarized the history and monumental effort that led the group to be back winning league titles in championship football. "My grandfather was always proud of his accomplishments in football perhaps more than almost anything else" said Wellington, speaking about his late grandfather, the legendary football executive and CEO Gregory Wellington. "But those trophies all came before I was born. Now, to see Uxbridge win this title, and the Premier League title in England to boot, it's really and truly special. I really wanted to make my grandfather proud in bringing this organization back, and I hope that we are doing that."

Now with the title won and the season fully wrapped, the next step will be to plan the parade in West London. Eadburt Clement, Uxbridge's former President and now the man in charge of football across the Wellington organization, is the man tasked with organizing that. "It's going to be quite an exciting affair" said Clement. "I think getting to show off that trophy in front of our thousands of fans is something all of the players are really looking forward to. They have really accomplished a lot this year, and I hope they get to enjoy in these celebrations as a reward for that work."

The parade itself will be taking place a week today, with the team, executives, and local politicians all expected to be in attendance.

FC Whitehorse wins Season 101 WG Financial Cup

In a pretty significant upset, FC Whitehorse Freezers defeated Uxbridge Town AFC to win the Season 101 WG Financial Cup. After the two teams had identical 1-1 draws in their finals matches, making the score 2-2 on aggregate, Whitehorse cruised to a 5-1 home victory on the first replay and a 6-2 road win to defeat Uxbridge Town 11-3 on aggregate. Freezers striker Tauro Serrato was named the tournament MVP.

The Freezers had an uninspiring group stage, finishing with a 4-1-3 record and sneaking into second place in Group B. Uxbridge Town, meanwhile, won Group B by winning all 8 of their matches. Uxbridge defeated the Manitoba Moos of the Canadian Soccer League in the semifinals 5-1 on aggregate, while Whitehorse upset Dutch club Overijssel United FC, the reigning WG Financial Cup champions 9-3 on aggregate.

During the post-match press conference, Whitehorse manager Raley Treffle spoke highly of the team that he joined in the middle of this tournament. "This is a team of battlers" said Treffle. "They go to work and show how really great they are at overcoming difficult situations. We were expected to roll over in this tournament, especially when we got to the playoffs. But the team played their butts off and I am so happy that they get this recognition."

Uxbridge manager MacCallum Barry praised his team's effort and congratulated his opponent. "Whitehorse played some very tough matches" said Barry. "I was happy with how we played throughout the tournament, and while it does sting to be the runners up again, I thought we gave it everything. Hopefully, we can come back even stronger next year."

The Gregory Wellington Memorial Trophy now goes to Whitehorse where it will stay until next year's tournament.

Pools Drawn for WG Financial Cup

The second annual WG Financial Cup was announced today at a press event in London. Joining the JR Wellington Sports Management clubs will be teams owned by HighwayHodge Sports Entertainment and Yukon Cornelius Ownership Group. The pools for the coming tournament are as follows:

Pool A

  • Overijssel United FC
  • Sportvereniging Red Star Aalst
  • Manitoba Moos

  • FC Stratford-Upon-Avon King's Men

 Pool B

  • Uxbridge Town AFC
  • FC Whitehorse Freezers
  • Lazer Sharx
  • Halle Côte d'Or
  • FC Edinburgh Bullet Birds

JR Wellington Sports Management Director of Football Eadburt Clement spoke at the press conference, welcoming the competition from rival clubs. "Obviously we want to prove ourselves to be the strongest" said Clement. "But, the best way to measure ourselves in this way is to play matches like these. This cup environment, though the matches are effectively friendly matches, will fuel the players and hopefully allow them to show off their cohesiveness and talent. I can't wait for the matches to kick off."

Matches for the cup kick off tomorrow between a pair of Yukon Cornelius clubs. The first match for a Wellington club will be next week as Overijssel United FC host Sportvereniging Red Star Aalst.

JR Wellington Sports Management Announce Return to Belgium

At a press event at the Wellington Group headquarters in London, the organization announced the creation of a new Belgian club that is expected to debut in the Belgian Premier League next season. Sportvereniging Red Star Aalst will mark Wellington's return to top tier football in the town of Aalst in the East Flanders region of Belgium.

"This is another exciting day" said Geoffrey Wellington, CEO of Wellington Group. "FC Aalst was perhaps the most storied club in my grandfather's iteration of the Sports Management division. With the founding of this new team, we will be able to have the return of top flight football to the region. It will be an exciting endeavour for us."

JR Wellington Sports Management Director of Football Eadburt Clement was also on hand to address the media and answer questions. "I'm sure that no one will be surprised that Red Star will go into next year with the same lofty long-term objectives as all of our other clubs" said Clement. "Seeing the league championship trophies for FC Aalst in our company's trophy case only gives me greater determination for our new club to find the same success. As the season for the Belgian Premier League is about to begin, that gives us a full year to get ready for high quality football. The next step will be to put a team in place that will be able to run the club day-to-day. We will worry about longer term goals once that core group is in place."

Several players have already joined the team on amateur contracts as the team will play a steady stream of exhibition matches leading up to their eventual professional debut. They are also expected to participate in the upcoming WG Financial Cup against their fellow Wellington owned teams.

Season 100 All Stars Announced

At a celebratory dinner event in London, JR Wellington Sports Management announced their footballers of the year. Director of Football Eadburt Clement was on hand to present the plaques to the winners, and gave a brief address. "I am pleased, on behalf of JR Wellington Sports Management, to recognize the efforts of these twelve individuals" said Clement. "Eleven players and a manager; individuals that excelled at their football over the course of the season, and represented our three professional clubs proudly. We are happy to be able to give them their due for the years that they had."

The award winners for Season 100 were:

  • Manager: MacCallum Barry (Uxbridge)
  • GK: Isaias Delatorre (Overijssel)
  • D: Sinnath Gudde (Overijssel)
  • D: Tyren Zonneveld (Overijssel)
  • D: Stephen Mill (Uxbridge)
  • D: Gaetano Gatti (Uxbridge)
  • M: Tab Leigh (Uxbridge)
  • M: Johan Nix (Whitehorse)
  • M: Luke Maigny (Uxbridge)*
  • M: John Bryan (Whitehorse)
  • F: Kobe Otsuka (Uxbridge)
  • F: Josemisco (Whitehorse)

MacCallum Barry led Uxbridge Town AFC to a 22 win 9th place finish in the AFPL. The 50 year old Englishman is a former champion as a manager, and will hope to do the same in Uxbridge in the coming years.

Spanish goalkeeper Isaias Delatorre started 33 matches in net for Overijssel, making 177 saves and allowing 74 goals. An 11 save clean sheet in his final league match of the season was his best performance, and at just 19, he has a long and bright future ahead with the club.

Sinnath Gudde was a solid defender for Overijssel, as well as their primary free kick taker. The 28 year old Dutchman scored 8 goals in 34 matches, was a strong interior defender, and failed to draw a single yellow card all season.

Overijssel's other Dutch interior defender, Tyren Zonneveld, was also recognized as an all star. The 19 year old played in 30 matches in his first professional season of football, and was commonly seen preventing defenders from advancing throughout the season.

Young Uxbridge captain Stephen Mill proved himself to be a reliable defender in his 32 league matches. In addition to his defending and on the pitch leadership, the 19 year old Englishman also scored a goal, the first in his professional career.

23 year old Italian defender Gaetano Gatti proved to be an incredibly versatile player for Uxbridge. He scored 2 goals in 31 league matches, provided excellent defensive support, and was often seen leading the attack from the wings.

Uxbridge midfielder Tab Leigh scored 7 goals in 32 matches and was a steadying presence in the English side's midfield. The 27 year old England native showed keen awareness and a crisp passing ability, assisting on a number of key goals throughout the year.

Whitehorse Freezers' captain Johan Nix was perhaps the best player last season for the Canadian side. The American midfielder Nix, 32, managed 6 goals in 30 league matches, taking the majority of his team's set pieces. Nix was also a solid fixture of defence in the middle, leading the efforts of preventing opposing attackers from getting into Whitehorse's third of the pitch.

French midfielder Luke Maigny scored 15 times in 33 AFPL matches, racking up an impressive highlight reel of free kicks that went into the back of the net. The 33 year old's amazing season at Uxbridge not only earned him a spot on the all-star team, but also gave him the honour of being JR Wellington Sports Management Footballer of the Year.

24 year old midfielder John Bryan was the only recipient of this award that does not currently play for a Wellington owned club. The Canadian was sold during the offseason to fellow CSL club the Manitoba Moos. As a Freezer, Bryan scored twice in 31 matches, and was a workhorse both while the Freezers were in possession of the ball, as well as when they weren't.

Kobe Otsuka proved to be a goal scoring phenom in his very first professional season. The 19 year old American forward notched 27 goals in 31 league matches, putting him in tied for second in league scoring and earning him AFPL Young Player of the Year.

Josemisco managed 9 goals in 33 games last year, in his first year of professional football playing for the Freezers. The 19 year old Brazilian led his team in scoring, showing some flair for a side that only scored 31 total goals in league play last season.
